During a ping-pong ball act, the clown Zabobrim chokes and collapses. When he wakes up, he finds himself alone in a sort of gateway and assumes that the accident has taken his life.
But he is soon welcomed by a series of deities representing different beliefs – from Jewish-Christian, African, Islamic, Spiritist, Buddhist and native peoples of the Americas’s origins. While they show off their skills, performing various circus numbers, these immortal beings help Zabobrim to find answers and understand the meaning he himself has given to his existence.
“The idea is to reflect on what we are doing here, regardless of religion,” says actor and director Esio Magalhães, one of the founders of Barracão Teatro, a group with roots in popular theatre. “At a time of so much disruption, of so much loss and intolerance, we wanted to celebrate life, in its most existential sense.”
