SescTV Release
The documentary series derived from director Manuela Castelo Branco’s restlessness. In 2008, she created the Festival de Palhaças (Lady Clowns of the World Festival), in Brasília. “At that time, it was very rare for female clowns to have visibility”, she says. In the very first years of the show, she began to do interviews with women clowns around the world, talking about their inspirations, their research and the role of femininity within the circus arts.
“The conversations come from an intimate perspective, but they also have a world view on comedy and women,” Manuela explains. “From the clowns’ point of view, you get to see a woman’s place in society.”
This is the second season of the series, which features 12 episodes with the artists: Fran Marinho (São Paulo), Drica Santos (Santa Catarina), Nola Rae (United Kingdom), Enne Marques (Pernambuco), Nara Menezes (Pernambuco), Maíra Oliveira (Distrito Federal), Tris (Austria), Adelvane Néia (São Paulo), Jeanick Dupont (France), Yanomi Shoshina (Japan), Odilia Nunes (Pernanbuco), Aline Marques (Rio Grande do Sul) e Joice Aglae (Bahia).
