The image of circus caravans – travelling groups that take the road, performing from town to town – guides the show. As if arriving at a new destination, a company of street artists stage a parade, presenting circus acts to the sound of jazz classics and contemporary songs.
Along the way, the artists interact with the local architecture, using performances to bring a new perspective to the space, explains Rocío Romero, a member of Unidos do Swing. “Our work was developed in the street, integrating different languages,” she says.
It is precisely in the public space that the company has made its name, in street performances and parades during São Paulo’s Carnival. Formed by circus and music artists, the group performs in a fanfare style, mixing traditional jazz from the city of New Orleans (USA) to various rhythms of Brazilian music. All this, of course, combined with circus numbers.
